How to Start Sourcing Products From China
A practical first-step guide for small businesses that want to compare suppliers, confirm requirements and reduce avoidable sourcing mistakes.
Sourcing from China becomes easier when the buyer starts with a clear product brief. Before contacting suppliers, prepare the product photo or drawing, material, dimensions, estimated quantity, packaging requirements and destination country.
1. Confirm the product requirement
Suppliers cannot provide a reliable quotation when the specification is incomplete. Use the same requirement sheet for every supplier so that price, MOQ and lead time can be compared fairly.
2. Compare more than the unit price
Review sample quality, material, production time, packaging, payment terms and communication. A low quotation may not be the best option when important details are missing.
3. Approve samples before production
Keep an approved sample or written reference. Confirm any changes in writing before the factory starts mass production.
4. Inspect before shipment
Check quantity, appearance, workmanship, dimensions, labeling and packaging according to the agreed requirements.
